Matt Kemp Not Ready For Opening Day

Los Angeles Dodgers player Matt Kemp is hoping to be recovered from offseason ankle and shoulder surgery in time for the season-opening series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australia. However, Kemp's agent is advising him to take it easy and not rush getting back too soon.
Dave Stewart said that Kemp has not suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and is telling Kemp to postpone his debut as a precaution.
"His biggest issue with injuries has been trying to get back too soon," said Stewart. "I'm urging him to make sure he's totally healthy."
When asked how much Kemp has listened to his advice, Stewart laughed, and replied, "Not very."
Stewart continued, saying, "He's really, really biting at the bit."
Kemp was limited to just 73 games last season because of a severe ankle sprain.
The Dodgers' season starts March 22nd in Sydney, Australia, with a two game set against the Diamondbacks. Their next regular season game will be on March 30th against San Diego.
Even without Kemp in the outfield, the team has three other high performing players in Yasiel Puig, Andre Ethier, and Carl Crawford.
Kemp was cleared to run on the anti-gravity treadmill about two weeks ago. He has had no problems with his shoulder and has been able to lift weights regularly, something he couldn't do last winter when he had the surgery on the same shoulder.
"I'd like to take the same approach the Dodgers are taking: Be sure of yourself, don't push yourself," Stewart said. "I think the team and I are on the same page."
But getting Kemp to listen to his agent may prove to be a "difficult task."
"It's not going to be easy," said Stewart. "How we get that done, I have no idea."

Dodgers' Kemp has Foot Surgery

Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp underwent a left ankle operation Monday.
His agent, Dave Stewart, said Kemp will be ready for opening day, but the procedure will limit his off-season training.
The operation was performed by podiatrist for the stars Dr. Robert Anderson of North Carolina. Dr. Anderson removed several small spurs and a loose body, as well as doing a microfracture on the talus bone. Kemp will be in a splint for two weeks and a non-weight bearing boot for two weeks after that.
Kemp thanked fans on Twitter who had supported him throughout the season, tweeting, "Thank u 2 all my fans showing me mad love 2day. Surgery went well 2day and I'm ready 2 start this process of getting back!"
Kemp was sidelined all of the postseason because of issues with his ankle, which he originally sprained in a home plate collision in Washington on July 21st. Dodgers team physician Neal ElAttrache was concerned that if Kemp continued to play, he could break one of the major weight-bearing bones in his foot.
Kemp was limited to 73 games this season because of his ankle, missing 52 games over the last two months. He batted .270 with six home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .723 OPS in 2013.
This is Kemp's second consecutive winter in which he has had major surgery. Last year he had surgery on his left shoulder. Earlier this month he had a minor procedure to clean up that same shoulder. He finished his first season in his eight year, $160 million contract.
Kemp will be unable to put any weight on his foot for a month, says Stewart, and will be limited in the activities he can do in the month after that.
Stewart tried to put a positive spin on the surgery, saying Kemp would be able to do the upper-body work he couldn't do last winter, along with strengthening his core and hamstrings.
"We're anticipating he'll be ready for the season," Stewart said.

Dodgers' Kemp Suffers Ankle Injury

If you've seen the video of Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp's ankle injury, you know how
cringe-worthy it is. When you're watching the video, you are saying "Ouch" along with him.
Sunday was Kemp's first game back from a two week break due to inflammation in his left shoulder from off-season surgery.
Kemp was on third base with the bases loaded and two outs when Carl Crawford hit a slow groundball to Adam LaRoche. Crawford hustled to first base and beat the pitcher to the bag. LaRoche noticed that Kemp did not move from third base and he threw the ball to the catcher.
Kemp finally realized he needed to move his behind off third base and ran to home, where he rolled his ankle and was removed from the game.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said after the game he doesn't believe Kemp will be on the disabled list, as his injury appears to be just an ankle sprain. "That's what I said last time, too," Mattingly joked, referring to the two weeks Kemp spent on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation.
Kemp commented after the game that, "It's not bad. I hope it's not bad. The biggest thing will be tomorrow when I wake up and see how it feels." He felt the injury was a result of not running hard enough on a force play at home plate.
Prior to his injury Kemp was having an excellent return to baseball. Batting sixth, he led off the second with a home run that bounced around in the cherry trees behind the left field stands. Later in the same inning he hit a double to left that brought home Andre Ethier from first. With two outs at the top of the fourth Kemp hit a single to left that scored Hanley Ramirez from second. He finished 3-4 with a walk, just a triple shy of the cycle.
